Every model’s document list has five layouts, and a filter language that saves. This is how you get from “everything” to the handful of records you actually wanted.
Layouts
Switch layout with the icon toggle above any model’s document list. All five read the same rows through the same filters, sort and search — a layout is a way of looking, not a separate list.
- Table — one row per document, one column per field. Best for comparing and for bulk work.
- List — a compact vertical list.
- Board — a Kanban board, grouped into columns by a Select field. Dragging a card between columns sets that field on the document. If a model has more than one Select field there is a Group by picker; if it has none, the board offers to add one.
- Gallery — a responsive grid of cards.
- Map — documents with a Location field plotted as markers. Click a marker to open the document.
Filtering and sorting
Filters build up a tree of conditions with AND, OR and NOT, so “open bugs assigned to me, or anything marked urgent” is one filter rather than three saved searches. Sort by any field; sorting respects the field’s type, so numbers sort numerically and dates chronologically.
Filters and sort live in the page, and the layout toggle keeps them, so you can build a view in Table and then flip it to Board without rebuilding anything.
Feeds
A feed is a filter you named and kept. Feeds can draw from more than one model at a time, which is what makes them useful for questions that cut across your schema — everything due this week, everything touched by one client, everything still unfiled.
Create and manage feeds from Feeds in the sidebar. A feed can also be embedded into a published page, so a public site section stays current on its own — see Sharing and publishing.
Search
The sidebar search box searches across your whole workspace, not just the model you are looking at. It matches text in your documents, including the text inside uploaded images when image text recognition is enabled — see Files and media.
The full Search page gives the same results with more room and lets you narrow by model.
What search looks at
A document is found by the text of its own fields — text, long text, rich documents, URLs, email addresses, select options and the like — and by the names of the records it links to, so a Book turns up when you search for its author. Accents are ignored, so “cafe” finds “café”.
It is also found by the text inside its images. When image text recognition is enabled on your Simplist instance, every PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF uploaded to a File field is read in the background, and the words found in it count as part of the document. Search for the invoice number printed in a screenshot and the record with that screenshot attached comes up. The recognised text is used for matching only; it is not shown anywhere in the app.
Recognition happens in the background — usually within a minute of upload, longer for a large batch — so a just-attached image may not match straight away. It applies to images in File fields only: images placed inside a rich document, SVG images and PDFs are not read. More on this in Files and media.
Calendar
The Calendar page lays every document that has a Date or DateTime value onto a month grid — one chip per dated value, each linking to its document. Filter to a single model with the model picker.
The month and the model filter live in the URL, so any calendar view is a link you can send to someone or bookmark.
The calendar deliberately shows every date, not just due dates: a month grid answers “what happens then”, and every date belongs to that question. The dashboard’s Due soon agenda is the opposite, and shows only fields explicitly nominated as due dates — see Models and fields.
Dashboard
The dashboard is the workspace’s front page: Due soon, your most recently created documents, and quick ways into your models. For a timeline of everything that has changed, see The activity log.
