A document is one record of a model. This is what you can do with them once they exist: edit together, look at earlier versions, duplicate, and recover the ones you delete.
Creating and editing
Open a model and choose New.
Editing a document is one page with one form. Changes save as you go; there is no separate save-and-exit step to forget.
Editing at the same time as other people
Edits appear live for everyone with the document open, and you can see who else is looking at it. If two people touch the same field, Simplist warns rather than silently picking a winner.
If you are offline, keep working anyway — see Integrations for how offline edits sync back.
Version history
Every edit is snapshotted. Open a document’s History to see the timeline, look at what any earlier version contained, and restore it in one click. Restoring is itself an edit, so it is recorded too and can be undone by restoring the version before it.
Models and fields have their own history as well, reachable from a model’s page and from each field’s row.
Duplicating
Duplicate copies a document’s field values into a new record of the same model. Useful when a set of records differ in two fields out of fifteen.
Deleting and the trash
Deleting a document does not destroy it. It moves to Trash, where you can preview it, restore it, or purge it deliberately. Restoring a parent cascades the restore to its children.
Items in trash are permanently deleted after 30 days.
Deleting a model sends its documents to trash along with it, so a model deleted by mistake can be brought back whole.
Duplicate records
Simplist watches for records of the same model that hold exactly the same content, and a banner tells you when it finds some. The Duplicates page lists each group so you can compare them and delete what you don’t want.
“Exactly” is meant literally: every field value you entered, every relation, and every attached file must match. There is no similarity score and no partial match — a threshold would need tuning per workspace and per field before it stopped being wrong in both directions, whereas an exact match needs none, and it is the case people actually hit: the same record entered twice, an import run against a list it had already imported, two people filing the same thing an hour apart.
Values the app derives for you — auto-numbers, formulas and rollups — are ignored when comparing, so a record whose rollup shifted is not suddenly distinct from its twin. A blank field and a field never filled in count as the same thing.
A group stays open until you dismiss it, or until deleting records leaves fewer than two.
Seeing what changed
The Activity page is a workspace-wide log of what has been created, edited and deleted, and by whom. It is the fastest way to answer “what happened here” when a shared workspace surprises you — see The activity log.
